Application of Combustible Sensor

The prevention of hazardous gas leaks, detection of toxic pollutants and process control all involve the use of combustible sensors for either detection or measurement. Semiconductor and catalytic sensors are typically used for detection purposes. Electrochemical, galvanic and NDIR sensors may be used for detection but are also commonly used to provide a ppm or % vol read-out.

With an increased demand for health and safety monitoring in industry and homes, there are a wide variety of applications.

Homes require carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to check on emissions from gas-fired boilers, domestic coal/log fires and wood burners.

CO detectors are also used for ventilation control of indoor parking garages and fire detection in both domestic and industrial environments such as biomass milling operations and storage silos.

LPG and Natural gas leak detectors are used for gas appliances.

Leak detection of refrigerants from air conditioners and refrigeration systems in a variety of settings cold stores, supermarkets, commercial, industrial and transportation

VOC air contaminants are detected through the use of VOC, Air Quality monitors and odour monitors which are frequently integrated with an air cleaning or ventilation control system. Airlines, restaurants and hotels are potential customers for these detectors.

The Working Principle Of The Combustible Sensor

Flammable gas sensors, such as fixed LEL gas detectors, are critical safety devices used to detect and monitor combustible gases in various industrial and commercial settings. These sensors are designed to measure the gas concentration of flammable gases and vapors, such as natural gas, propane, and butane.

By continuously monitoring the gas concentration, these sensors can help prevent accidents and injuries by alerting personnel to potential hazards. When the gas concentration reaches a certain level, known as the lower explosive limit (LEL), the gas mixture can ignite in the presence of an ignition source. The LEL is the lowest concentration of a gas that can form a flammable mixture with air, while the upper explosive limit (UEL) marks the point at which the gas mixture is too rich to ignite. Gas detection systems equipped with combustible sensors can be used to monitor for a wide range of flammable gases, including those with different lower explosive limits. By understanding the lower explosive limits of specific gases, it is possible to set appropriate alarm thresholds to ensure safety within a specific temperature range.

Combustible sensors can be used in complex industrial environments such as those in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Industrial Manufacturing, Water and Wastewater, Fire and Hazmat Response and Renewable Energy.

FAQ

Q: What are the features of gas sensor?

A: A gas sensor is a device that detects the presence of various gases, particularly those that may pose a threat to humans or animals. It utilizes different materials and technologies to determine gas properties like sensitivity, selectivity, and stability for applications in environmental monitoring and protection.

Q: What is the difference between an explosimeter and a gas detector?

A: It is a gas detector that measures the presence of gases (explosive or flammable) according to their Lower Explosive Limit or LEL. It is used to detect gas leaks such as natural gas, butane, propane, etc.

Q: What can trip a flammable vapor sensor?

A: FV Sensors can be triggered by ammonia or sewer gas. Sometimes an FV Sensor Lockout can be triggered by seemingly harmless events like pet accidents or litterbox storage near the heater, mopping the floor with bleach, or storing paint cans nearby.
