Working Principle

 

 

A dust sensor module is an optical electronic system designed to detect fine particles such as dust.

 

In principle, a dust sensor module detects the concentration of dust particles in the air by using an optical sensing method. An infrared light-emitting diode and a photosensor are optically arranged within the device. The photosensor detects the reflected infrared light from dust particles in the air, and the associated electronic circuitry delivers an output voltage proportional to dust density. This helps measure dust and smoke concentration.

 

It detects the reflected light from dust in the air. It is particularly effective at detecting very fine particles like cigarette smoke. In addition, it can distinguish smoke from house dust by analyzing pulse patterns of output voltage. The presence of dust can be detected through photometry based on just one pulse.

 

For the light detector (photodiode), a lens and a slit are positioned in front of it to filter out disturbing light and efficiently detect light reflection when measuring dust. The area where these two optical axes cross is known as the detection area of the device.

 

The device produces a voltage output even when no dust is being detected. This occurs because light emitted from the LED reflects off parts of the device's casing, with some portion reaching the detector. The output voltage without any detected dust is specified as voc in its specifications.

 

Current proportional to the amount of detected light flows from the detector, allowing for analog voltage output (pulse output) after amplification by an amplifier circuit that enhances current signals from this detector.
